What: Gubongsan Mountain (구 봉 산)
Where: Yeosu has several ‘neighborhoods’, and this mountain is right in the middle of the action! City: Yeosu-si. Providence: Jeollanam-do.
Elevation: Gubongsan Peak (구 봉 산) is 388m
Get There: Well, Elicia and I live just north of this mountain, our neighborhood is called Yeoseo-dong. The neighborhood just south and east a bit is called Guk-dong and this is where our schools are located. We had friends visiting, so the four of us took a taxi to Elicia’s school, and there was a trail-head there. You can access this mountain from either side because there is an extensive trail network…. pretty common theme here in Korea!

The Summit:
Final Thoughts: Just outside our backdoor, I’m glad we were able to hike this with friends as it was on my list of things to do. Here in Korea you can literally walk towards a mountain and you can find a trail to begin your journey. Sometimes there’s maps, other times just a vast network of trails to explore. Gubongsan Mountain offers great views of Yeosu and the outlaying area rich with islands… it’s a must-do if you’re looking for a moderate 1.5 hour round-trip hike. We were fortunate to have a clear, sunny day with temps in the 60’s.
looks awesome!!
