What: Horangsan Mountain (호 랑 산). Also known as “Tiger Mountain” because ‘HoRangYi’ means ‘Tiger’ in Korean.
Where: You’ll find Horangsan Mtn just north of Yeosu a little ways. This is also a popular mountain for rock-climbers as there are some nice vertical cliffs near the peak.
Elevation: Horangsan Peak (호 랑 산) is 481m, making it one of the larger ones in the Yeosu area.
Get There: After school, we stopped at our apartment to grab a quick bite to eat and to get into our hiking gear. Three buses (#73,#76 and #777) go to Hwy 77 right by this mountain. Bus #777 happens to run right through Yeoseo-dong where we live, so we grabbed bus #777 for a cheap ride up to the trails. You could also take a taxi from anywhere in Yeosu very easily.
While we were walking along the ridge and hanging out on the summit of Tiger Mountain, all I kept saying was, “WOW”!! This was by far and away my favorite mountain so far in the Yeosu area. Why? I think the pictures answered that… It was remarkably beautiful. We were blessed with great weather today (finally) after several days of rain, so we wanted to get out and enjoy it. Horangsan is definitely worth another trip back!
